Hi guys, I hope you’re all good and well! So I don’t know if you’ve all heard of this thing called ‘Derma Rolling’ but I was recently sent a derma roller, changeable derma roller heads and a vitamin serum to test and review.
Piercing your skin with a bunch of tiny little needles, may not sound appealing at first, but do the cosmetic benefits of the derma roller outweigh the negative? YES. At first glance, a derma roller may appear to be a miniature barbaric torture device, but it has in fact become one of the most innovative approaches to skin care treatment in years.
A derma roller provides advanced micro-medical skin-needling, a procedure that stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely, creating smoother, brighter, healthier, younger-looking skin. It can significantly improve the appearance of:
- Facial and decolletage lines and wrinkles
- Hair growth
- Stretch marks
- Aged and sun damaged skin
- Scars (including acne)
- Rejuvenation of hands
Derma rollers use needles of different sizes according to your cosmetic needs. Deep scars, wrinkles and stretch marks should utilise a roller containing a 0.5mm needle, whereas daily treatment for nutrient absorption of skin care products should try around a 0.2mm or 0.25. It is important to keep in mind that with extended and persistent use, the results get better and better. Collagen in the skin begins to wrap the facial surface with a fresh layer of radiant and younger looking skin. These results can normally be achieved in as little as 4-6 weeks.
How to use?
Using the derma roller for the first time, I..
- Washed my facial make up off; foundation, bronzers etc
- I cleansed my face and neck
- Attached the needle head to the derma roller
- Applied to my face with light pressure and rolled section by section
- Applied Vitamin serum
Now don’t be alarmed when using the roller if you experience a light tingling and heat. My face went red pretty quickly and began to get hotter and hotter – this is completely normal! Especially if you have sensitive skin like myself, the needles may irritate you slightly more than normal skin but rest assured, the redness will go down and your skin will be glowing! A bit like aftersun, put your serum in the fridge so it will cool you down once you apply it to your face afterwards.
Some may be discouraged by the thought of their facial skin harboring hundreds of tiny holes, but derma rollers leave the epidermis fully intact. The tiny holes close within just a few hours of application. Within those few hours, the skin’s lower layers are able produce new collagen structures giving the skin a rejuvenated, younger appearance.
The redness reflecting from my face in these ‘after’ photos will surely be worth a younger complexion right? Let’s hope!
It’s important, as always, to note that one skin treatment should not make up all of your skin treatment. Derma rolling can work wonders for your ailing skin but you should not become overly reliant on it or any one skin treatment in particular. Using a proper facial cleanser or incorporating a series of essential oils into your routine, for example, can go a long way towards boosting the health and appearance of skin and are always highly recommended.
However, that being said..
The roller was not as scary or as painful as I thought it would be. It didn’t irritate me as much as I thought it would and I feel very positive about this beauty product. This is something I can definitely see myself adding to my beauty regime; no not every week but once a month, do NOT over-do it!
If you suffer with any of the listed and feel like you have tried all of the products, creams, cleansers, scrubs, oils and treatments, maybe look into purchasing a derma roller. I will be adding derma rolling products and oils to my products page for you all to check out.
If you have any questions at all, drop me a comment or an email! Untill next time..
All my love, Levi-Maria.
